Wasatch Adaptive Sports: Capturing a Summer Event in Utah

Summer with Wasatch Adaptive Sports (WAS) means getting outside, getting on the water, and creating opportunities for people to experience Utah's outdoors in an accessible and supportive environment.

Our team at Novais Studios joined Wasatch Adaptive Sports for a WAS Summer event, capturing the activities, people, and stories that brought the day to life.

From action on the water to conversations on shore, our goal was to create more than an event recap.

We wanted to capture what a WAS Summer experience actually feels like.

Inside a Wasatch Adaptive Sports Summer Event

The WAS Summer event brought together participants, volunteers, staff, friends, and family for a day centered around adaptive outdoor recreation.

There was plenty happening on the water, but the story extended far beyond the activity itself.

The preparation before heading out.

The encouragement between participants and volunteers.

The reactions afterward.

The conversations happening throughout the day.

Those smaller moments gave us a better picture of what the Wasatch Adaptive Sports community is all about.

Capturing the People Behind the Experience

For this project, we combined action footage with behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, and participant testimonials.

The outdoor activities gave us the movement and energy of the WAS Summer event, while the interviews gave participants the opportunity to share their experiences in their own words.

Together, those elements helped us tell a more complete story.

Rather than simply showing what happened during the event, we wanted viewers to understand the joy, connection, and sense of adventure behind it.

That's especially important when creating content for organizations built around people and purpose.

Documentary-Style Storytelling in the Utah Outdoors

Some of the strongest moments from the WAS Summer event weren't planned.

They happened naturally throughout the day.

A conversation before getting on the water.

Someone celebrating after an activity.

A volunteer helping a participant prepare.

Friends and family watching from nearby.

Our role was to stay close enough to capture those moments without getting in the way of them.

That documentary-style approach is something we bring to outdoor productions, nonprofit storytelling, brand films, interviews, and event coverage across Utah.

The goal isn't to manufacture a story for the camera.

It's to recognize the story that's already happening.

Showing Another Side of Adaptive Sports in Utah

Utah's mountains are often associated with skiing and winter recreation, but the outdoors here has just as much to offer during the summer.

The WAS Summer event gave us the opportunity to capture that side of adaptive recreation.

Blue skies. Open water. Warm weather. Movement. Conversation. Community.

The setting gave us beautiful visuals, but the people made those visuals meaningful.

That's what we wanted the finished content to communicate.

More Than a Summer Event Recap

A strong event video should do more than document what happened.

It should give someone who wasn't there a reason to care about it.

For Wasatch Adaptive Sports, that meant showing the experiences behind the program and allowing participants to help tell the story themselves.

We're grateful to have spent the day with the WAS community and to help share a glimpse of what their Summer events make possible.

For us, this project wasn't simply about capturing people on the water.

It was about capturing joy, connection, adventure, and greater access to Utah's outdoors.
